Privacy policy

Your privacy matters to us. This policy explains which personal data we collect when you visit the site or join the community, why we do it and what your rights are, under the EU General Data Protection Regulation 2016/679 (GDPR).

Who is the data controller

The website vitadagolden.it is run by Cesare and Laura, the creators of La Vita da Golden, who are the data controllers as private individuals, not as a business. For any privacy question you can write to us at vitadagolden@gmail.com.

What data we collect

We only collect the data needed to run the site and the services you choose to use.

Browsing. When you visit the site, our servers record technical data (IP address, browser type, requested page, date and time) in system logs, for security and troubleshooting.
Account. If you join, we keep your email address, the name you choose to show and, if you add them, your city, a short bio and profile photo, your preferred language and your consent to receive our emails.
Your pets and the health diary. If you add them, we keep your dogs' or cats' details (name, species, breed, sex, date of birth, weight, photo) and the entries of the health diary (vaccines, parasite treatments, vet visits, notes and documents you upload), with the reminder dates.
Courses and walks. We save your progress in the lessons and the walks you favourite or mark as done.
Link clicks. We count clicks on our recommended products, the book and our Instagram posts to learn what the community finds most useful. These counts do not include your IP address; if you are signed in, they may be linked to your account.
Partnership requests. If a company writes to us through the partnerships form, we keep the details provided (company, contact name and email, phone and website if given, type of partnership, budget and message) to reply and handle the request.

Why we use it

To run the site and your personal area, and to protect them from abuse (performance of the service you ask for and our legitimate interest in security).
To send you the sign-in link, the health diary reminders you turn on and messages about your account (performance of the service).
To send you our news, only if you consented; you can withdraw at any time.
To answer contact and partnership requests (pre-contractual steps and legitimate interest).
To understand, in aggregate, which content and products are most useful (legitimate interest).
To comply with the law.

We do not sell your data and we do not use it for targeted advertising.

Where it is stored and who processes it

The site is hosted on Amazon Web Services (AWS) in the eu-central-1 region (Frankfurt, Germany). The providers that help us run the service process data on our behalf, as data processors:

Amazon Web Services EMEA SARL: application hosting, database (Amazon Aurora DSQL), storage of uploaded files (Amazon S3), content delivery (Amazon CloudFront) and email delivery (Amazon Simple Email Service).
Meta Platforms: the site shows our public Instagram posts, which we copy to our servers. When you open a post or one of our social profiles, you are on Instagram, TikTok or YouTube and their policies apply.

Some AWS services may involve transfers outside the European Economic Area; in that case they are protected by the standard contractual clauses approved by the European Commission.

How long we keep it

We do not delete data automatically: your account, pets, diary and course progress stay in our database as long as the service runs, so you find everything every time you come back.
If you ask us to delete your account, within 30 days we remove the data that identifies you (email, name, city, bio, photos and uploaded documents) and keep only anonymous data, which can no longer be linked to you, for the community statistics. Database backups expire on their own: daily ones after 35 days, weekly ones after 6 months.
Partnership requests stay in our archive, to follow up on the partnership and contact the company again in the future; whoever wrote to us can ask for them to be deleted at any time.
Technical logs are kept for at most 30 days.

Cookies

We only use technical cookies, needed for the site to work, which do not require consent:

session: keeps you signed in to your personal area;
language: remembers whether you prefer the site in Italian or English (NEXT_LOCALE, 1 year).

We do not use profiling cookies or third-party analytics. If we ever add them, we will only turn them on with your explicit consent.

Affiliate links

Some product links, including those to Amazon, are affiliate links: if you buy, we earn a small commission at no cost to you. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. When you click, you go to the seller's site, which processes data under its own policy.

Security

All connections use HTTPS. Data is also encrypted at rest, access to the database is restricted and authorised with temporary credentials, and only the site administrators can access the management area.

Your rights

You have the right to access your data, ask for it to be corrected or erased, restrict its processing, object, receive a copy in a readable format (portability) and withdraw your consent at any time. You can edit or delete most of your data directly in your personal area; for everything else write to us at vitadagolden@gmail.com: we reply within 30 days.

If you believe the processing is not lawful, you can lodge a complaint with the Italian Data Protection Authority, the Garante per la protezione dei dati personali (garanteprivacy.it), or with the authority of your country.

Children

Membership is reserved to people aged 14 or over, the age set in Italy for consenting to online services (art. 2-quinquies of the Italian Privacy Code). Younger children may use the site only together with a parent.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when the site changes. The date of the last update is shown at the top of the page; for important changes we notify members by email.
